In accordance with Section 35 (7) of the Constitution, I wish to advise that nominations have been received for vacant positions as follows:

As only one person was nominated for each of the positions of Vice President and Theatre Committee Representative, those persons are duly elected as members of the Board to be ratified at the Annual General Meeting.

There were no nominations for the position of Secretary. In accordance with the Constitution Item 40 (2), the Board must appoint a member who is eligible under the Act to fill the position within 14 days after the vacancy arises.

With respect to the position of Rules and Regulations Committee Representative, there are two nominees.

Financial Members

To be eligible to have voting rights, you must be a financial member. Any parent who has a child 18 years of age or over and wishes to vote must be a financial General Member. It is important to note that anyone nominated, nominating or seconding a Board nomination must be a financial member of the Association.

We are seeking volunteers to support the WA State Teams backstage for the following key events:

Interstate Challenge – Friday 19 June and Saturday 20 June 2026

As a valued volunteer, you’ll be supported and guided by the CAWA Interstate Challenge Backstage/Prop Co-Ordinator throughout the events.

be willing to comply with ACF and CAWA Policies and Codes of Conduct.

Vale Betty Fitzpatrick

On behalf of the CAWA Board of Management and all of Betty’s many calisthenic friends made throughout decades of loyal dedication to our wonderful sport, we extend our deepest sympathy to Merrell, Trevor and families on the loss of their much-loved mum and grandmother.

Betty was a highly respected, longstanding Life Member of the association. She was involved at both club and association level over many years and held numerous positions, including President of the Association on two different occasions.

Betty was still involved until very recently, rarely missing a competition. In fact, her dedication to calisthenics in this State made her a very special part of our association, and as such, we acknowledged this by naming our first team competition of the year after this wonderful lady.

Betty will be sorely missed by all who knew and loved her. An amazing life lived. Rest in Peace, “Mrs Fitz”.

2025 CAWA AusCaliCarnivale Solo, Duo & Graceful Representative Information

CALISTHENIC SOLO AND DUO TRIALS FOR REPRESENTATION TO THE 2025 ACF AUSCALICARNIVALE WILL BE HELD ON SATURDAY, 24TH MAY AT SWAN PARK THEATRE, IN THE AFTERNOON / EARLY EVENING AT A TIME TO BE CONFIRMED.

Graceful Solo Selection for 2025 ACF AusCaliCarnivale:

Existing CAWA procedures apply for Graceful Solo invitations to the 2025 ACF AusCaliCarnivale. However, instead of the standard four places, we will be offering six, all chosen from each Championship section.

The first six placegetters in the Championship section of CAWA 2025 State Graceful Solo Championships for 10 years, 12/13 years, 16/17 years, Seniors and Masters section will be invited to compete on behalf of CAWA. Should any invited competitor decline, the offer will be forwarded to the next highest placed competitor, and the competitor declining will then be eligible to trial for a Calisthenic Solo should they choose.

PLEASE NOTE: Six places will NOT be awarded/announced at the relevant Championship Graceful Solo finals. The standard five places will be awarded/announced, with the sixth invited in due course.

Should there be a tie within the first six places, a selected panel of adjudicators will complete an independent adjudication.

Those competitors accepting an invitation to compete at the 2025 ACF AusCaliCarnivale Graceful Solo competition will be ineligible to trial for the ACF AusCaliCarnivale Calisthenic Solo section.

Calisthenic Solo and Duo Trials for 2025 ACF AusCaliCarnivale:

Trials for each age group (Sub-Junior, Junior, Intermediate, Senior and Masters) for both Calisthenic Solo and Duo sections will be held, with six representatives to be selected per age group for the Calisthenic Solo section, and four representatives to be selected per age group for the Calisthenic Duo section.

Those who were offered and have accepted an invitation to compete in the ACF AusCaliCarnivale Graceful Solo Competition, or those trialling for the ACF AusCaliCarnivale Calisthenic Solo Competition can also trial for the Calisthenic Duo section.

Each Calisthenic Duo competitor will be eligible to represent WA in one solo section (either Graceful Solo or Calisthenic Solo) based on the above selection process. Duos may have both of the pair compete as a Graceful Soloist or a Calisthenic Soloist.

i.e. if doing a Calisthenic Duo:

“Golden Ticket” Entries:

Should we be invited to enter a “Golden Ticket” entry, CAWA will enter the next placed participant who is a member of CAWA’s State Team in the relevant section.

The first six placed competitors competing in the Masters section of the 2025 CAWA Graceful Solo section will be invited to participate in the Masters section of the 2025 Cali Carnivale competition. Should an invitation not be accepted the next placed competitor/s will be offered the position. In the event that the 6 places are not filled from the 2025 CAWA Graceful Solo Masters section, trials will be held to fill the remaining vacancies.

Entries to trial in any section will open Sunday, 11 May 2025 via Trybooking. All entries are to be received by close of business Thursday, 22nd May 2025 at 5:00pm.

Costs are:

Solo Entry: $20:00

Duo Entry: $30:00

Spectators are welcome. Costs being $10:00 adults, Children (under 16 years) Free

CAWA awards Life Membership honours

At the 2025 Calisthenics Association of Western Australia (CAWA) Annual General Meeting, two remarkable individuals were honoured with Life Membership for their outstanding contributions to the sport: Sandra Gosling and Glenys Stade.

Sandra Gosling

Sandra's journey with calisthenics began in 2002 when her daughter Kristy joined the sport. Since then, she has immersed herself in various volunteer roles, including President and Vice President of the Association, Club President, costume coordinator, team liaison, theatre management member, and competitions committee member. As Association President, Sandra adeptly navigated the organisation through challenging times with compassion and dignity. Her ongoing involvement, particularly in competitions and theatre management, continues to be a source of support and warmth backstage. Sandra's unwavering dedication and passion have significantly enriched the calisthenics community, making her a deserving recipient of this prestigious honour.

Glenys Stade

With a calisthenics journey spanning six decades, Glenys has been a cornerstone of the community since 1964, starting as a competitor with the Tuart Hill Girls Rhythmic League club. Her competitive career included representing Western Australia in the Intermediate State Team in 1974 and the Senior State Team in 1976. Transitioning to support roles, Glenys began writing for adjudicators in 1994 and joined the CAWA Board of Management as Secretary in 1996. She played pivotal roles in the State Team as Assistant Manager and Secretary, overseeing fundraising initiatives. Since 2000, Glenys has been an integral part of the Competitions Committee, managing various responsibilities, notably as the "Front of House" manager since 2014. Her meticulous coordination of critiques for competitions and her readiness to assist individuals and clubs underscore her invaluable contributions. Glenys's extensive and selfless service has left an indelible mark on the calisthenics community, rightfully earning her this esteemed recognition.

The CAWA community extends heartfelt congratulations to both Sandra and Glenys for their exceptional service and dedication to the sport.

Important Information

To all Coaches, Parents/Guardians, Competitors and Patrons On behalf of the Board of Management and all involved in the running of this competition, we are very excited to host the 2024 CAWA Graceful Solo Finals.

A couple of important reminders to all:

• As we have employed a commercial videographer, it is important to note that no videoing will be allowed in the theatre. Patrons will be asked to leave the theatre should this ruling be breached.

• Only competitors and coaches are allowed in the dressing rooms and training room.

Purchasing of Videos – POLISHD PRODUCTIONS Should you be interested in ordering a video, they will be available in the foyer directly after the performance. $18.00 per video (either byo USB or $10 per USB). Videos are also able to be purchased after the event through Polishd Productions online shop. See website www.polishdproductions.com.au

Purchasing of Photographs – DANCEPRO.com.au There will be a commercial photographer available to all. The photographer will be taking live photographs in the theatre and will also be set up in the foyer for standard photos. Patrons are asked not to take personal photos in the foyer. CAWA awards Life Membership honours

Two incredible volunteers were honoured as CAWA Life Members at the 2023 CAWA Annual General Meeting on Wednesday, March 6th.

Debbie McDonald and Stephanie Humphrey were both recognised for their significant, sustained and lasting contribution to Calisthenics in Western Australia.

DEBORAH McDONALD

Deborah McDonald commenced her extensive volunteer journey with CAWA in 2000 when she became the Team Manager for Riverton’s Elementaries. She undertook a number of volunteer roles at Riverton from 2000 to 2016 including Team Manager, Costume Manager, Halls Booking Officer, Equipment Officer, Caliskills Coordinator, Vice President, Assistant Treasurer and President. In 2009 Deborah assisted in organising Riverton’s 40th Anniversary celebrations.

In late 2016 Deborah was instrumental in the re-opening of Aurora Calisthenics Club. Since the Club’s re-opening she has been President, Team Manager, Costume Coordinator and Hall Coordinator. Deborah has been pivotal in Coach recruitment as well as actively promoting and advertising Aurora successfully on Social Media. Due to her dedication to her club, numbers have increased substantially over the past few years.

Deborah recently received a Certificate of Appreciation from the City of South Perth Mayor in recognition of her continued voluntary work at Aurora.

Deborah continues to actively volunteer for the Association. In 2008 Deborah was part of the Nationals Organising Committee. She has also been Secretary on the CAWA Board of Management since 2011. She has been actively involved in numerous CAWA projects and programs too numerous to mention.

The amount of time and energy that Deborah has dedicated to the sport is simply outstanding and, as a result, Deborah was the well-deserved recipient of the Halliday Award in 2023.

Deborah McDonald has and continues to be a valuable hard-working volunteer for the Association and is a very deserving recipient of CAWA Life Membership.

STEPHANIE HUMPHREY

Stephanie Humphrey has been an important part of both Athena Calisthenics Club and CAWA since her daughter, Louisa began classes 18 years ago. She has enthusiastically taken on many roles within the club including Team Co-ordinator, Cali Skills Co-ordinator, Vice President and general committee member, as well as being a support person to other positions throughout the years.

When the Athena Seniors competed at the Royal South Street Eisteddfod in Ballarat, Victoria in 2017, Stephanie was the major driver and organiser for the team, ensuring a wonderful and successful trip for all involved.

Louisa was selected into her first State Team at age 8, and Stephanie immediately offered to take on a position to help out as much as she could. She went on to be Chaperone for State Team in all age groups multiple times throughout the years. Her contribution to State Team wasn’t just taking on a position, she assisted in all areas of the State Team co-ordination and has become a highly respected and valued member of the team.

Stephanie took on the enormous task of CAWA Cali Skills Co-ordinator a decade ago. In addition to her exceptional organisational skills running the program, she has been instrumental in making the program what it is today in WA, with her support of the program and encouragement of candidates over the years. She has also given the Medals part of the program the prestige and grandeur that it deserves on the Cali calendar, attracting more candidates then ever striving to participate.

Stephanie has been a writer for our WA Adjudicator’s for many years. She is always happy to help out and is often called upon at short notice if someone is unavailable. She’s written for many of our adjudicators and is extremely well respected and valued in this role.

Over Stephanie’s many years being involved with Calisthenics in WA she has not only been an incredible support for her daughter but to so many others. She’s a wonderful advocate for our beautiful sport, much loved by all and truly deserves to be recognised as a Life Member of our Association.

News Release

Update for members: Seven States Meeting

On Saturday 20th January 2024, representatives from all calisthenics state bodies came together in

Melbourne at CaliVic Headquarters to discuss a range of important matters on behalf of their

respective calisthenic communities.

The meeting was positive with states sharing the opportunities and challenges they are facing as well

as exploring how the change in Victoria would look for all states in 2024 and beyond.

While the Australian Calisthenics Federation (ACF) Board did not have a representative at the

meeting, the meeting was conducted with their full support. CaliVic confirmed from their perspective

that there are no barriers to participate for our members including: registered interstate performers

are welcome to compete at Victorian competitions and that Victorian Examiners and Adjudicators

are welcome to adjudicate interstate.

From the meeting, several recommendations that formalize the commitment to collaboration,

support, and development of calisthenics across Australia made by the states were formed and

provided to the ACF Board for their acceptance.

A summary of the recommendations includes, in 2024:

• Registered Victorian performers are permitted to compete at interstate competitions.

• Registered interstate performers (teams and soloists) are permitted to compete at Victorian

competitions.

• Victorian Masters teams can enter the Pan Pacific Masters Games. (We note that CaliVic has

directly confirmed their participation with the Pan Pacific Masters Games organizing

committee)

• Victorian Adjudicators can adjudicate interstate competitions, if registered with the ACF.

• Victorian examiners can examine interstate under the ACF Pupil Skills program, if registered

with the ACF.

Confirmation of the acceptance of these recommendations will be good news for many. It is pleasing

that the changes announced last year have not hindered participation opportunities for our

calisthenics performers. We remain unified in our commitment to increasing participation in our

sport and strengthening calisthenics both in our states, and across the country.

This role offers flexibility but does require availability during "unsociable" hours, including late nights, early mornings, and weekends, especially during external dance competitions and calisthenics events.

CAWA is seeking a Kiosk Manager to oversee and run the Theatre kiosk operations.

Previous experience is highly desirable. The role would suit a person who has worked in the Theatre kiosk or has experience in the running of a café or school canteen.

Theatre News - October 2023

In the coming weeks, upgrades and installations are scheduled for Swan Park Theatre.

Roof repairs will be carried out to enable a new air conditioning unit to be installed servicing the foyer area – just in time for a hot summer!
Using a grant from DLGSC towards solar energy and power reduction initiatives, the installation of Solar Panels will begin in early November.
Main Stage will be closed for a fortnight in late December for repainting.
The Training Room will be out of action for most of January while a new floor is installed.

The Board would like to thank Theatre Chairperson, Rob Farrelly, and his team for the incredible amount of volunteer work to help keep the theatre maintained and running well.

Graceful Solo Selection to 2023 ACF National Graceful Solo Championships

Existing CAWA procedures apply for Graceful Solo invitations to the 2023 ACF National Championships, Graceful Solo sections. That is:

The first four placegetters in the championship section of CAWA 2023 State Graceful Solo Championships for 12/13 years, 16/17 years and Seniors will be invited to compete on behalf of CAWA. Should any invited competitor decline, the offer will be forwarded to the next highest placed competitor and the competitor declining will then be eligible to trial for Calisthenic Solos or Calisthenic Duos.
Should there be a tie within the first four places, a selected panel will complete an independent adjudication.
Those competitors accepting an invitation to compete at the 2023 ACF National Graceful Solo competition will be ineligible to trial for the ACF Calisthenic Solo section and Junior Duo section.

CALISTHENIC SOLO AND DUO TRIALS FOR REPRESENTATION TO THE 2023 ACF NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIPS ARE TO BE HELD SATURDAY, 20TH MAY 2023 FROM 3:30PM AT SWAN PARK THEATRE, GRAY DRIVE, MIDVALE

Each age group will be trialling for items as below with three entrants selected per section:

Board of Management will allow those seniors who have accepted an invitation to compete in the ACF National Championships Graceful Solo Competition or those trialling for the ACF Calisthenic Solo Competition to also trial for the Duo section.

To be eligible to represent WA in the Senior Duo only one partner may compete in a solo section (Graceful Solo or Calisthenic Solo).

Senior Calisthenics Duos may have one of the pair compete as a Graceful Soloist or a Calisthenic Soloist. Competitors will only be allowed to compete in one solo section - ie either Graceful Solo or Calisthenic Solo.

"Wildcard Entries"

Should there be positions vacated by other States/Territories in the Solo and Duo competitions, ACF will be inviting "wildcard" entries.

Should we be invited to enter a "wildcard" entry into the ACF Solo/Duo draws, CAWA will enter the next placed participant in the relevant section.

The Calisthenics Association of WA is seeking an ongoing part-time Development and Governance Officer to assist the Board to develop Calisthenics as a sport in Western Australia. To assist the Board with the management of registers, plans, policies and documents and ensuring they are remain current.

We are primarily looking for a self-motivated individual capable of working independently to develop Calisthenics in WA. The development officer role is the primary focus and offers flexibility in working from the office and home for 15 hours per week as well as governance on an as required basis (average 5 hours per fortnight).

Development in Governance role will be provided.

Almost two centuries of commitment to WA sport set to be honoured

SportWest has announced three new recipients of the May Campbell Medal ahead of the 2022 SportWest Awards to be presented at Optus Stadium next week.

Sandra O’Keefe (Calisthenics), Derek Gatley (Dance Sport, Ballroom Dancing) and Ian Toy (Lacrosse) will be honoured at Western Australia’s most prestigious sports awards, having contributed almost 200 combined years to their respective sports in the WA community.

SportWest CEO, Matt Fulton is in awe of the dedication our winners have to their sport. “It is people like Sandra, Ian and Derek, that are the heart of Community Sport, dedicating so much time and passion to the sport they love, inspiring the younger generations as they go. Very worthy recipients of the May Campbell Medal"

The Service to Sport – May Campbell Medal seeks to recognise the contribution made by an individual to sport or their sporting organisation through long and outstanding service.

Sandra has been a stalwart of Calisthenics in WA and has more than 60 years’ experience as a participant and administrator at both the local and state level. Due to Sandra’s outstanding contributions as a volunteer, Sandra has achieved many accolades over the years including; 2005 Life Membership Hills District Calisthenics Club, 2008 Life Membership Calisthenic Association of WA, 2016 Australian Calisthenics Federation Volunteer of the Year Award and Australian Calisthenics Federation Life Membership Award.

Derek has had a connection to DanceSport since he started as a participant and competitor in the 1950s. During this time Derek has served the National and State bodies of DanceSport as Chair of the Rules Commission, Chair of the Selection Committee, Chief Executive Officer, and Chief Financial Officer. Gatley has announced his pending retirement from his National Duties but will continue to offer his extensive knowledge to the WA State branch.

Ian Toy is a champion for Lacrosse, not only in WA, but Australia. He has shown a commitment to lacrosse as both a player and administrator. Ian established the Wanneroo Joondalup Lacrosse Club and was a driving force behind the establishment of the Subiaco Lacrosse Club and continues his service with roles at Lacrosse WA.

We are excited to announce our Frangipani Team will now be known as the ‘WA State Development Team’. This opens the team up to new and exciting opportunities, including the design of a new uniform, which will be similar to our WA State Team.

Trials for the WA State Development Team are open to any financial member of CAWA. Girls may only attend trials if they have not competed in a State Team for their current age section.

The WA State Development Team has been invited to attend the NTCA Frangipani Challenge on 23/24 September 2023. All applicants for personnel or coaching positions must be available to travel with the team to Darwin.

Inaugural Applecross Eisteddfod - Solo Competition

Applecross Calisthenics Club will be hosting the Inaugural Applecross Eisteddfod in October 2022. This event will be a Calisthenics solo competition for all ages and clubs. The competition will be held across three* dates from 14th-16th October at the Swan Park Theatre.

Limited spots will be offered for each age group, so an Expression of Interest (EOI) process will happen in July, with official registrations opening in August.

EXPRESSION OF INTEREST(EOI) & REGISTRATIONPROCESS

1. EOIs open via the Applecross Calisthenics Club website at 6pm, Monday 11th July.

2. EOIs close at 11pm, Thursday 21st July.

3. Each section is capped at 20* performers. The first 20 EOIs received for each age group will be offered a position in the Eisteddfod. An email will be sent by Friday 29th July with a link to final registration and payment, via TryBooking. This will need to be completed and paid by 11pm on Friday 5th August. *Please note, if sections do not reach capacity, then some sections that have a wait-list will be increased.

4. Wait-listed performers will be emailed if a position becomes available by Monday 8th August with a link to final registration and payment, via TryBooking. This will need to completed and paid by 11pm on Sunday 14th August.

2022 Amanda Young Award Recipient -

Lilly Donaldson

The Amanda Young Foundation is a non-profit community organisation dedicated to reducing deaths in WA from meningococcal disease, supporting survivors of the disease as well as the development of young people into WA's future leaders.

The Foundation was formed in 1998 following the tragic death of Amanda Young from meningococcal septicaemia at the tender age of 18 years. Each year part proceeds from our Future Stars Concert, held in October are donated to the Amanda Young Foundation. CAWA is delighted to announce that this year $1,000.00 will be donated to the Amanda Young Foundation from CAWA.

Nominees of the Amanda Young Cadet Award must display initiative, enthusiasm and make an overall

contribution to club culture. Nominees attend all Coaches Association seminars and courses and are always willing to contribute “above and beyond”.

Congratulations to the very special young ladies who have been nominated for this prestigious award.

Lorraine and Barry Young are not able to be here tonight to present the award to this year’s very worthy

recipient but send along their best wishes for a fabulous evening.

The 2022’s Amanda Young Foundation award goes to Lilly Donaldson of Hills District Calisthenics Club.

The Hills Calisthenics Club nominee for the 2022 Amanda Young Award is Lilly Donaldson, an outstanding young lady who has supported Hills through the most difficult of times. This delightful young lady has been involved in calisthenics from a very young age and has proven her worth time and time again both as a cadet and also as a team member.

Currently part of our Intermediate section, Lilly commenced as a class assistant in 2018 and her cadetship in 2019. She has worked with our twinkle toes section, sub-junior 3/4s, sub-junior 1/2s and is now working in the junior section. 2022 is her final year as a cadet.

Lilly is very keen to develop her skills in order to pass on to the junior members of our sport. She attends

all cadet training programs as she works towards her Level One qualification. She is also a strong proponent of the calisthenic skills program, sitting and passing her Grade 4 examination with Honours in 2021.

Her beautiful personality lends itself to amazing results both in class and as a cadet. She has shown true

dedication to Hills, rarely misses a class, fits in wherever needed, knows her work well and is always happy to help her teammates.

Lilly has proven herself to be a fantastic role model to our younger members. Her work ethic is exceptional, and her loyalty and support of our club members epitomises what Hills is about. Lilly is a true team player and is loved by all who come in contact with her.

This award was originally created in memory of Mrs Jo Halliday, who was instrumental in the development of the sport in its early days. Mrs Halliday held many positions on the Board of Management and was an outstanding volunteer whose service spanned 40 years. The award has recently been renamed the “Halliday Award” in memory of both Jo and her son Ian who passed away four years ago. Ian was a Life Member of the Association, Chairperson of the Theatre Management Committee, State Team Treasurer and pianist for both State Teams and club teams during their respective competitions.

The recipient of this award is a dedicated volunteer, who has given much time and effort to the Association.

Congratulations to Patricia Robinson, the very worthy recipient of the 2022 Halliday Award.

Tish has been involved in calisthenics since her parents enrolled her at Applecross Calisthenics Club as

a child. Competing through all ages, Trish made the move to coaching as a teenager.

Her coaching career commenced at Applecross and she was also a member of the coaching teams at Victoria Park and Midland before moving to Hills District Calisthenics club where she has coached for almost 30 years, coaching every section from twinkle toes through to seniors. Trish is much loved and highly respected by everyone at Hills. She believes that all participants deserve equal opportunities and will coach any person who is keen to learn.

Trish has also been involved at State Team level, coaching numerous teams from the late 1980's to mid 1990s. She has always made herself available as a selector and has mentored many state team coaches over the years. Trish has never missed a nationals competition; supporting both our teams and soloist's wherever they travel! She has also coaches soloists at national level.

Trish is a strong advocate of Caliskills and has taken classes for both club and CAWA on many occasions.

Trish's involvement with Calisthenics Coaches WA goes back decades and she has been Treasurer for over two decades. The time and dedication she has shown to coaches across all clubs is to be commended. .She is always available to assist anyone in need.

Trish is a member of the ASCA WA Branch and is a very experienced adjudicator who has adjudicated at every CAWA and Hills competition including gracefuls, solo/duos and teams.

Trish is a long -term member of the CAWA Board of Management currently representing association members as Development Chair. Her knowledge of the sport and inherent wisdom in indeed a huge benefit to all, especially when difficult decisions are to be made.

Trish is a wonderful person who is loved and respected across all facets of calisthenics. We are honoured to know her and believe that she is a very worthy recipient of such a special award.

The Volunteer Outstanding Service Award is presented to a volunteer who has given outstanding service to his or her club over many years. We are very fortunate to boast several fabulous volunteers. Special congratulations to this year’s finalists Karen Flynn (Mandurah, Rae Faulkner (Applecross) and Lorraine Plummer (Hills Districts) all outstanding nominees – thank you all for your dedication to your clubs and your contribution to our wonderful sport.

On behalf of numerous members of both Hills and CAWA we are very proud to announce Lorraine Plummer as the 2022 CAWA Club's Volunteer of the Year Award.

Lorraine has been a dedicated club member since her daughter Sarah joined Hill in 1998. From that date on she has been involved as a committee member, working tirelessly both within the club and as a club representative at association level. In face, we don't remember a time when she hasn't been involved in some way!

Lorraine has represented Hills at CAWA Competitions for over two decades - a huge undertaking in anybody's terms. Because of her unending support in this area, Hills rosters are always covered.

Similarly, the equipment officer role has been efficiently coordinated by Lorraine for the past 22 years

with equipment readily available to all sections. Lorraine personally visits each class to ensure the girls are all fitted correctly.

Team managing ins on of the most time consuming and difficult roles in any club with the junior team

manager required to put aside two days per week to ensure that the team in well supported. Lorraine has undertaken team manger duties many years and on retirement she offered to fill in as required.

On to of these duties Lorraine has always made herself available to assist with costuming, running up dozens of leotards over the years. Always eager to help out, just one phone call and Lorraine will be driving around the metro area collecting material, uniforms, trophies - in fact anything we ask her to chase up - always with a smile!

Lorraine is a staunch supporter of the 'Hills Graceful Solo Competition', giving her time over the full weekend and filling rosters where needed.

Together with her husband Andy, Lorraine has also volunteered many, many hours towards ensuring that CAWA State Team runs well. Nothing is too difficult for Lorraine.

Lorraine is a warm and generous lady who has been a constant source of support to many club members over the years; always actively working towards making people feel welcome. Her loyalty,

hard work and dedication to both Hills and CAWA is indeed beyond reproach.

We consider Lorraine a true friend and an irreplaceable club and association member and believe that she is extremely worthy of the CAWA Volunteer of the Year award.

Dawn has been involved in calisthenics since she was a child, when her parents took her and her sister

Kerry to Wembley Downs calisthenics club in 1965 as sub-juniors.

Working through all of the age groups, Dawn competed until 1982. She also participated in State Teams from 1971 to 1979.

Dawn undertook coaching as a teenager and successfully coached at both Club and State Team level.

Her coaching has involved all age groups at:

- Wembley Downs Calisthenics Cub 1973 - 1984

- Floreat Calisthenics Club 1985 - 1989

- Carine Calisthenics Club 1990 - 1991

- CAWA Assistant State Team Coach 1977 & 1979

Dawn coached numerous graceful soloists including Donnellee (Hendry) Huntley, Paige Gordon and many more very successful competitors.

She is one of Western Australia's inaugural Calisthenics adjudicators with over 40 years adjudication

experience. During her time as an adjudicator, Dawn has held the following positions within the WA branch:

- President

- Immediate Past President

- Secretary

- Cadet & Accreditation Coordinator

- Rostering Coordinator

- Committee Member

She has always been an active member of ASCA (WA). Her commitment to the planning of adjudication roster for all of our West Australian competitions is a role which she does with enthusiasm.

Dawn has represented ASCA (WA) on the Adjudicators' Advisory Board (AAB) from 2005 and is currently still on this Board. As an AAB delegate, she has worked tirelessly on a number of key projects and contributes to all meeting with expertise and knowledge.

Dawn's adjudication experience extends across all section and levels. Her experience and the high regard in which she is held as an adjudicator, has been recognised by appointments at Ballarat, Interstate and the ACF National Championships.

Dawn is also an EAB Examiner, examining numerous caliskills in this state, regularly travelling to the

regional areas to ensure that our members are able to sit these important examinations She is currently able to examine up to Grade 4 level.

In addition to her work for ASCA, EAB and the AAB, Dawn was appointed to the Calisthenics Association of WA Board of Management. In this role Dawn was the Adjudicator Representative for many years.

Her dedication and contribution to CAWA has been endless. Calisthenics has been a life long passion for Dawn and this is evident in the time she has devoted to our sport. At both State and National levels she has consistently strived for the improvement of the standard of calisthenics skills, coaching skills and adjudicating.

Dawn is committed to the ongoing development of the association and has been responsible for the

training and progress of participants in both callisthenic skills and adjudication. She is always willing to be involved in the development of our members.

Dawn in a positive role model to the Calisthenics community. Her professional approach to everything

calisthenics is well recognised.

There is so much more that we can say about this beautiful person. We believe that Dawn deserves special recognition for her exceptional dedication and commitment to the Calisthenics Association of West Australia and is a very worthy recipient of the Frank Boan Award.

As you know, WA has entered what is considered to be a ‘ high caseload phase ’ of the COVID pandemic. COVID is present in the community, and we understand that many families have a high level of anxiety and concern.

This page will share some simple protocols we will be adhering to:

If we have a positive case in the Calisthenics community
If we have people who are close contacts in the Calisthenics community.

To ensure we are operating in line with the State Government guidelines in this high caseload environment.

Practical actions we can all take to keep each other safe

IF YOU ARE UNWELL, PLEASE STAY HOME
If you are experiencing symptoms of COVID-19 get tested
Wear a face mask when required
Practise physical distancing (keep at least 1.5 metres or two arms length from each other)
Practise good personal hygiene (wash hands often with soap and water, or hand sanitiser and cover coughs and sneezes with a tissue or use your elbow)
Use the ServiceWA app or SafeWA app to check in at all venues

The obligations of every individual

Every individual has a right to privacy. If someone tests positive to COVID or are considered a close contact:

They are obliged to follow the instructions given to them by the Department of Health
They are not obliged to notify us (CAWA), their coach, team manager or team.

It’s very important to understand that the Department of Health is responsible for confirming and communicating COVID positive cases and close contacts.

If someone in the Calisthenics community tests positive for COVID , they will receive instructions from the Department of Health regarding the testing and isolation protocols they need to follow. The Department of Health will then notify any close contacts.
If someone in the Calisthenics community is considered to be a close contact, they will receive instructions from the Department of Health regarding the testing and isolation protocols they need to follow.

What we will do if notified about a COVID case or close contact

We will keep that person’s details confidential.

We will act in line with instructions from the Department of Health. This may include:

Providing the Department of Health with the contact details for everyone at a certain training session or event
Cancelling training or an event
Notifying our venues who will then also act in line with advice from the Department of Health to action things like a deep clean of the venue

How to notify CAWA if you are COVID-positive or a close contact

Even though you are not obliged to notify CAWA, you may still wish to let us know if you are COVID-positive or a close contact. The best way to do so is via email to secretary@calisthenicswa.com.au .

What you should do if you are a Club President, Coach or Club Official, and you are notified about a COVID case or close contact in your team?

If someone notifies you that they are COVID-positive or a close contact AND they’ve indicated they wish CAWA to be aware, please email their contact details to secretary@calisthenicswa.com.au .

What if someone tells their whole team they are COVID positive?

If a teammate has let you know they are COVID-positive, please know that CAWA or Club is not able to provide you with advice as to whether you are a close contact.

The Department of Health will notify you, but only if they consider you to be a close contact.

If you feel sure you’re a close contact and are uncomfortable with the time it’s taking for the Department of Health to notify you, you can choose to:

Consult the WA Health guidelines that define a close contact
Follow the appropriate testing and isolation protocols for your situation as outlined here

Please note: While we may be able to do things like cancel training or events in situations where we know a team has been in the presence of a COVID-positive person, we do not have the capacity to advise individuals as to whether they are a close contact or not. Only WA Health can do this.

Patience and privacy are important

We understand the anxiety and confusion people are feeling right now. We are all experiencing the same. As this is a situation that’s changing constantly, it’s difficult to keep abreast of protocols and responsibilities.

We ask the Cali Community for patience and understanding as we navigate through this phase. We also ask that everyone respects each other’s privacy during this time.

We don’t know what affect COVID will have on our events and competitions at this stage, but we have great people on our Board, and they are working hard to stay across everything and minimise the impact on our community where they can.

Shania Wood Honours Performance

This Saturday afternoon (during the 16-Year and 17-Year Solo / Duo Competition) Shania Wood (from Hills District Calisthenics Club) will attempt to add Honours to her Gold Medal. To be able to perform for Honours a Gold Medal mark over 90 was achieved at her Gold Medal exam in 2020.

Shania will present 3 stage performances (Free Exercises, Rod Exercises, and Aesthetic and Dance) that she and her coach Karen Quinn have choreographed together. Each performance is two and a half minutes long and they will be spread over the afternoon.

We are very fortunate to have Mrs Diane Winterling (from South Australia) return to WA to be our examiner.

Glenys has be volunteering as the "Front of House Manager" for 6 years and in other roles for 28 years! ⁠

Glenys was a Cali girl who wanted to remain involved in the sport after retiring from competing, so she began volunteering as she wanted to give back to the sport which had given so much to her. ⁠

New Solo Graceful Schedule Released

In light of the State Government’s latest Covid-19 announcement, the Board of Management has agreed to a new program for the 2021 CAWA Graceful Solo Championships. This can be found on the Solo Graceful Competition page of our website.

It has been necessary to take into account numerous issues but first and foremost we have had to consider the impact on our beautiful competitors should restrictions be extended over the coming weekend.

Casual Theatre Cleaners Needed

Do you love to clean? Are you looking for some alone time?

The Association is looking to increase its pool of casual employees available to undertake cleaning duties at the theatre and is therefore seeking Expressions of Interest from people from within the Calisthenics community.

The role requires people to be available to work "unsociable" hours which may involve both late night/early morning and weekend work shifts, particularly during external dance competitions and internal calisthenics competitions.

We are pleased to announce that the CAWA Board of Management has made the decision to commence preparations for the National Championships in 2021.

Lisa Farrelly has been appointed to the position of State Team Manager and she is looking forward to another exciting state team journey.

At this stage the Australian Calisthenics Federation has not made a final decision on whether the Championships will be held but have indicated that if they are, they will be held in Darwin in July 2021. In the event that the Nationals cannot be staged in person, there are also discussions taking place on using a virtual platform to host the competition. These decisions may not be finalised until December or January following responses from all of the states.

With this information in mind we will be commencing the process of appointing coaches and other personnel, running workshops for competitors and holding trials in the near future. The dates of these events may not be those currently listed on the website but we will get those details out as soon as possible.

State Team is an important part of the development of our sport and we encourage as many of our competitors to consider being a part of this wonderful experience. The higher level of training and the friendships made are just two benefits that our state team competitors enjoy.

It is the commitment of the Board that until a firm decision is made, there will be no expendables other than for the payment of coaches and hall hire. We will be able to give more details on the estimate of costs prior to trials.

PHASE 4 COVID-19 CONDITIONS FOR 2020 SOLO/DUO COMPETITION

As no announcements have been made concerning WA going into phase 5 from the 24th October, CAWA will need to assume that we will remain in phase 4 at least for the first weekend of the Solos and Duo Competition.

The kiosk will remain closed over the Solos and Duos, regardless if WA enter into phase 5 due to the short lead up time to organise rosters and stock.
Each competition day that WA is in phase 4 we will need 5 volunteers to remain after the morning session to assist cleaning the auditorium. A call for volunteers will be announced after each morning section.

Please refer to the below plan as to how the Solos and Duos will be run under phase 4 conditions .

Ticketing for Solo/Duo Competitions
There is a ticket limit of 2 tickets per performer. Every person entering the auditorium MUST hold a valid ticket – including infants. There will be NO door sales.

Concession $11 per session

Accepted cards for Concession – (proof may be required at the door)
State Government Seniors Card – not National Seniors Club Card.

New Day Rate
This year we are introducing a day rate of $28.00 for an Adult and $18.00 for a Concession. This rate will only
apply to sessions booked for the same day. Unfortunately, you are not able to select a day rate through Trybooking. To get the reduced ticket price, you will need to purchase your tickets and then email secretary@calisthenicswa.com.au to receive a partial refund.

The ticket will state the seat number and which door to enter on the day of the competition.

Tickets went on sale on Friday 16th October via Trybooking. The site was taken down for a short time on Friday evening to alter the seating configuration to allow the competitor to sit with their two supporters after they finished performing on stage. A few ticket purchasers were moved from their original seats and were allocated new seats close to their original seats due to the requirement for the competitor to be seated with their
supporters. If your seating was changed, you would have received an email. We sincerely apologise for any inconvenience caused and thank you for your understanding on this additional measure that we have been
required to put in place.

Arrival to Competition

No one (competitor, audience member, coach, volunteer etc) will be allowed to enter the premises if they have a high temperature and/or are feeling unwell.
As we have to comply with the foyer number limit of 120, audience members can only enter the complex no earlier than 30 minutes prior to the commencement of the competition.
For the second session of the day, entry will be permitted once the prior competition has been cleared and cleaning has been completed.
The inside car park is not to be used for drop off and/or pick up of competitors and/or costumes.
Tickets need to be shown to door personnel, who can assist with direction to seats if required. Please enter the door as stated on the ticket.
Programs will be available from the door personnel.

Getting Competitors Ready For Competitions

Competitors can get ready at Midvale. However under phase 4 the dressing room limits apply. Dressing room allocations have been completed and released which advise where competitors and coaches go to get ready.
For participants under the age of 18, the parent/guardian can drop their child off at their allotted changing room. Your arrival time can be that as specified by the coach. After you have dropped your child off at their coach’s allocated dressing room you need to vacate the complex and return as an audience member 30 minutes prior to the commencement of the competition.

Dressing Room Allocation and Etiquette–

The allocation of dressing rooms has been carefully completed and released to Clubs and Coaches.
Sanitizer will be provided in all dressing rooms.
Only coaching and assisting staff (ie hair and makeup) will be allowed in the dressing room/s allocated.
The number of competitors in the dressing room MUST abide by the number stated on the dressing room door.
NO unauthorised personnel are allowed in the changing rooms or corridors.
NO sharing platters to be brought into the dressing rooms. Competitors and coaches are to bring their own food and drink. Please keep the food packed ‘low maintenance’ eg muesli bars vegetable sticks, cheese, crackers, sandwiches etc.
At the end of the day could individuals in each changing room ensure:-
Used bin bag tied up – put near door side
Put clean bin bag in bin. Wipe down surfaces and door knobs with disinfectant provided (including wardrobe rack).

A reminder that under our Member Protection Policy there is to be no photographs taken in the dressing rooms. All photos must be taken on the grass area outside the Theatre.

Rules for during the Competition

The training room will be available for run through’s. The usual rules apply – one run through per item.
The usual method of marshalling will apply. One item in the holding area, one back stage and one on stage.
Lighting rules as per CAWA Running Rules apply.
Stage/Dressing (prop) rules as per CAWA Running Rules apply.
Technical Rules (eg banned movements) as per ACF Rules will apply.
Timing Rules as per ACF Rules will apply.
Coaches to register at front desk on arrival, collect coaches badge and place stage sheet in relevant tray.
All lighting must be called from the Bio Box.
There will be no use of headsets backstage by coaches as per team competition.
Coaches can arrange another CAWA Qualified Coach or Cadet from their club to operate the computer for music and/or DLP. A sanitising station will be set up at this point and every person using the computer, keyboard, projector will need to sanitise before and after use.
A sanitising bottle will be placed on each of the follow spots, please clean the head sets after each use.
After under 18 competitors have performed, they will need to meet their parent or guardian in the foyer and go into the auditorium. A seat has been reserved next to each supporter pair. Seniors will also be required to use the seat allocated next to their supporters.

During the Competition – Auditorium and Foyer

Each Audience member will need to stay in the seat that has been allocated to them. The auditorium dim lights will be turned on between each item to allow members who needed to exit the auditorium to return to their allocated seat.
Because the foyer is limited to 120 people, we ask that the audience remain in the auditorium for as long as possible.
There are no planned breaks and the kiosk will not be open. Patrons may bring their own food; but food must be consumed outside of the auditorium.
The Stage Manager will announce auditorium rules, with reminders throughout the competition.

Presentations

We are pleased to announce that presentations can proceed as usual; with competitors standing or sitting on stage maintaining social distancing.

Vacating the Auditorium upon Competition Completion
After the results have been announced:

Auxiliary family members will be asked to immediately vacate the building.
A nominated parent/guardian per child will remain in the auditorium.
The Stage Manager will announce one side of the auditorium to pick up their child followed by the other side of the auditorium.
After picking up your child, please leave the building IMMEDIATELY. DO NOT stay in the foyer or congregate immediately outside the Theatre doors and ‘chat’.
The above will be slightly modified for the Senior Competition. Details will be announced on the day.
